The winner of the annual Best Front Garden competition has been announced.

Matthew Bolshaw, of Chipperfield Back Lane, in Letchmore Heath, was crowned the winner of the Centenary Cup for the Best Front Garden in Aldenham Parish.

The winner is chosen by an expert panel of judges from Radlett Horticultural Society on behalf of the Aldenham Parish Council which awards the cup annually. Every front garden is considered.

Chairman of the panel, Elizabeth Wackrow, said: "We decided this year to look at high-summer gardens and did our judging in August.

"The choice was not an easy one, especially during a difficult growing year but we have a worthy winner and two runners-up.

"Mr Bolshaw maintains his very colourful garden, assisted by Paul Spencer, to a very high standard. It contains a varied assortment of perennial plants and shrubs, supplemented by interesting containers filled with annuals."

The Centenary Cup was given to Mr Bolshaw in his front garden by the chairman of the Parish Council, cllr Neil Payne.
