A woman celebrated a birthday milestone with her friends and family.

Joyce Morgan, who was born in Watford, celebrated turning 100 last Sunday with her family, including her great-grandchildren.

Cynthia Minns, her daughter, said the party was lovely and her mum really enjoyed her special day.

She said: "Mum was thrilled to open her card from the Queen, she has always been a royalist and loves anything to do with the Royal Family.

"The sun was shining which usually happens on her birthday. She would always say the sun shines on the righteous."

Mrs Morgan was asked what the secret to a long life is and she said keeping busy, being surrounded by family and friends and good home cooking, something her mother would do as well.

Mrs Morgan worked as a secretary in Leavesden Hospital in Watford for many years of her life, moving to a care home in St Albans six months ago.

Her daughter Mrs Minns also said living a long life is genetic as Mrs Morgan’s mother also lived to nearly 100 and many other members of her family lived long lives.

At her birthday party on Sunday, Joyce was given her birthday cards from The Queen and the Secretary of State by her great-granddaughters.

Mrs Minns said: "It is an amazing achievement to live to 100."
