A guide to community events going on in Watford, Three Rivers, Bushey and the Langleys.

WATFORD

Cyclists will be able to get their bikes security marked at a cycle safety day in Watford town centre. The event, organised by Watford Community Safety Partnership, will be held in the High Street, at the junction of Queens Road, between 10am and 1pm on Saturday, October 15. Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team, Volunteer Police Cadets and British Transport Police will be there to security mark and register the bikes, as well as share safety advice with cyclists.

A charity jointly supported by Hertfordshire Constabulary and the Fire and Rescue Service is looking for new members to join its board. Herts in Trust is a grant giving charity which operates across the county. It aims to help make Hertfordshire a safer place for those who live and work in the area. Since its launch in 2003, the charity has awarded grants of up to £5,000 to local charities and community groups whose work supports the Trust’s aims and objectives. On Friday, October 21 there will be a performance at Reason cafe and bookshop in The Parade from 7.30pm. Andy Storey is headlining and also appearing will be Rosana Bosanac, Zara Brown, Sam Carrington, Robbie Fox, Victor Preda, Andy Quirk. Entry is free.

A charity frock swap is taking place at The Barn in Watford on Sunday, October 30. The even will take place between 3pm and 5pm. There will be items from £1 on sale to raise money for the international justice mission.

Amie Bone Flowers is celebrating 10 years of trading in the town on Saturday, October 8. It is holding a local fun day at the shop to celebrate with flower workshops, floral face painting and food.

The Watford Mencap Santa Dash will return to Cassiobury Park on December 4, where people are invited to dress up as their favourite Christmas character and run the five kilometre race. Warner Brothers Studios will be donating prizes to the best dressed as well as the fastest runners. Proceeds from the Santa Dash will help fund Mencap’s children’s centre that supports families with a child that has a learning disability. Warner Brothers are sponsoring the event and any runner that raises more than £25 will be entered into a draw to win a family ticket to the Harry Potter Studio tour. There will be a Oxfam/World Development Movement meeting on Thursday October 14. There will be a presentation and discussion by two people closely involved with the refugee crisis. The meeting will start at 7.30pm at Bushey and Oxhey Methodist Church.

THREE RIVERS

All Saints Church is holding a fundraiser for a charity. On October 7, the church in Croxley Green will be hosting the Dinner Bell fundraiser for the British Heart Foundation. The event starts at 12pm. For more information contact 01923 441 638.

Book lovers are invited to a charity book sale at Croxley Green Baptist Church, in Baldwins Lane. The event, on October 8, is on between 8.30am and 2.30pm and volunteers are needed. For more information contact Chris Fagan on 01923 720 319.

Three Rivers District Council has launched a community toilet scheme. A number of local organisations have volunteered to allow the public to use their toilet facilities during opening hours. You can now use the toilet at the following places in Three Rivers: Library in Lower Road, Chorleywood; The Fox and Hounds in New Road and The Harvester in Watford Road, both Croxley Green; YMCA Woodlands off College Road, in Leaveseden; Three Rivers House in Northway, Watersmeet and Mencap in High Street, all Rickmansworth and The Centre in Gosforth Lane, South Oxhey.

Parents are invited to the Sarratt baby and toddler group. Parents can meet at the King George V Pavilion, in the King George V Playing Fields, every Monday morning. Tea, coffee and biscuits are available at the meeting that runs between 9.30am and 11.30am. The session ends with a parent-led sing-a-long and the group is also looking for volunteers. Throughout winter, movies will be shown at a village hall. Grapevine movies will be playing at Sarratt Hall, in the Green, and the first will be shown on October 14. Doors open at 7.15pm for adults and children’s movies start at 4pm. Supper is also served at the event and this month it will be shepherd’s pie.

BUSHEY

Two public exhibition events are being held to explain more about Hertsmere Borough Council’s proposals to develop Radlett’s Newberries car park. The plans for the car park, which the council owns, are among a number of entrepreneurial projects across the borough being pursued in order to increase income from our assets, following a significant reduction in Central Government funding. The Newberries car park scheme will maintain and improve the existing car park provision and develop a premium food retail store and a hotel above the car park. Both Marks and Spencer and Travelodge have confirmed that they wish to enter into leases and operate from the development. The proposals are now sufficiently developed to start public consultation, so two exhibitions will be staged at The Radlett Centre in Aldenham Avenue on Monday October 10 and Thursday October 13 between 3pm and 8pm.

A planning meeting to decide the future of Aldenham Reservoir will take place in Hertsmere Borough Council offices in Borehamwood on Thursday October 13. The meeting will start at 6pm.

The next Bushey, Radlett and Aldenham Community Safety Partnership meeting will be held on Monday. The meeting, chaired by Raymond Coffer, will be held at Queens School in Bushey. The meeting will address all matters that the community has raised over the last few weeks. Police officers from the Safer Neighbourhood team will be there, plus councillors and council officers. A free screening of Robinson Crusoe will be held on October 14 at Holy Trinity in Bushey. There will be popcorn and sweets for a small fee. Doors open at 4pm and the movie starts at 4.30pm. The event is free and anybody is welcome.

On Saturday October 29 there will be a musicathon held at St James’ Church in Bushey High Street. The event will run from 10.30am to 5pm with light refreshments for sale in the Church House. Donations will be given to the Parish of Bushey.

LANGLEYS

To celebrate the change in season, Kings Langley will have an autumn fair at All Saints’ Church on Sunday, October 29. The event will run from 9.30am to 1pm and will have stalls selling gifts, crafts, jewellery, books, beauty products and home accessories. There will be a grand draw and tombola, children’s activities and refreshments available. Admission to the event is free.

Magpie Lane will be performing at Abbots Langley Community Centre, in Gallows Hill Lane on October 9. The gig will start at 2.30pm and is part of the Abbots Langley Winter Acoustic Concerts. The event fee is £12 and includes tea, coffee and cakes.

Comedians will be gathering to provide a fun-filled night at Kings Langley Services Club in Hempstead Road on October 12. Patrick Monohan will be headlining the gig with appearances from local talent. The event will start at 7.45pm and tickets cost £6. For information on how to book, call 01923 262982.

A night of fireworks and fun will be held at Abbots Langley Manor House Recreation Grounds on November 4. Admission is free with a collection on the night. The display starts at 7.30pm.

Kings Langley Primary School will be hosting an All Figures Clothing fashion show on November 3. Clothing from All Figures Clothing will be available to purchase after the show. Tickets cost £5 and will be available from the school office. Refreshments will be available at the event and funds will be raised for the primary school. Artists can join a meeting at Toby Carvery, in Kings Langley, to discuss setting up Kings Langley Arts and Crafts Society and to promote and support all local creative pursuits. The event will take place on October 14 at 11.30am.
