Armed police and negotiators have been called to reports of a man barricaded inside a Northolt property in possession of “hazardous items”.

Witnesses said they were told police at the scene that they were responding to “some kind of bomb scare”.

Police would not confirm this but said that, due to concerns for the safety of the man in the Wood End Lane residence, no attempts have been made to gain access.

Police arrived shortly before 1am on Friday after receiving a report of concerns for the occupant and hazardous items inside the property.

It is believed that a lone male is inside and, whilst it is not known what hazardous items he has, police are “treating seriously” reports that the items could be dangerous and that attempts have been made by the man to prevent access to the address.

Police cordons have been set up in a 200 metre radius around the property to facilitate the ongoing police operation.

There is no suggestion that this incident is terrorist related, nor is it linked to any other ongoing investigation or operation.

Recent reports state Wood End Lane and Whitton Avenue West remain closed.

Police thanked those local residents directly affected for their cooperation and patience. Local officers are on duty around the area of Wood End Lane to talk to the local community and address any concerns that they may have.
