Almost 5,000 speedy drivers have been caught out on the roads of Watford in the last three years.

An FOI request to Hertfordshire Constabulary revealed that 4,781 drivers were snapped by speed cameras from November 2013 to October 2016.

The most notorious spot was Rickmansworth Road, by Cassiobury Park Avenue, which caught 1,010 drivers last year.

And four cameras on Hempstead Road have caught 754 drivers since October 2013.

Zariaat Masood, spokesperson for Brake, the road safety charity, said: “It’s extremely worrying that such a large number of drivers in Watford continue to speed.

"Breaking the speed limit contributes to more than one in four fatal crashes in the UK, so it’s vital that limits are strictly enforced."
