A 10-year-old disabled boy has set up a fundraising page to buy a specialised bike so he can join in with his family bike rides.

Sean Ponder, 10, from Farm Way, in Bushey, was born with a rare chromosome disorder that means I cannot walk, talk, or sit unaided.

His mother Clare Ponder, 33, is asking for people to donate to their justgiving page to help raise the necessary funds for the bike.

She said: “Sean is like every teenage boy. He has his hair in a man bun and loves football and is a big Watford FC fan.

“My husband and I often go on bike rides and it is very upsetting that Sean is unable to join us. We want to get him this bike so he can join in our family.

“Sean loves being out and at the moment when he goes out he does not get to do the same things as everyone else.”

His carer Charlotte Jeans has been looking after Sean for about four years and has set up the fundraising page to try and collect £7,500 for a specialised bike.

She said: “When I take him to King George’s Recreation Park there is only the roundabout and a swing he can use.

“Most of the time he has to watch his siblings play. All of his family love going on bike rides and there is not one suitable for him.

“I do not understand why buying this specialised bike is £7,500 but I can buy a bike for my daughter for £60. It should not be this expensive.”

Sean also has epilepsy which is part of his condition and shows signs of athetoid cerebral palsy.

There will be various fundraising events starting in January on his birthday in order to raise money for the needed bike.
