A whole host of projects have received a much-needed boost thanks to financial contributions from borough councillors.

Hertsmere Borough Council's Ward Improvement Initiative Scheme (WIIS) gives each of the 39 councillors £500 to spend on projects throughout the year.

Cllr Morris Bright, Leader of the Council, said: "Our Ward Improvement Initiative Scheme is all about funding small projects in local areas to benefit active communities.

“From festive lights to defibrillators, all these schemes and projects are worthy recipients that have benefited in a variety of ways from the contributions our borough councillors have made."

Defibrillator for Elstree Lawn Tennis Club

Cllr Bright, from Elstree ward, allocated £150 towards a defibrillator for Elstree Lawn Tennis Club. This is part of an on-going town council campaign to site defibrillators in prime locations across Elstree and Borehamwood.

Child’s play for school children

Children at St Teresa’s Catholic School in Borehamwood will be getting back to nature thanks to funding from four councillors.

Cllrs Charles Kelly and Farida Turner both from Borehamwood Hillside allocated £200 and £150 respectively, Cllr Gary Silver of Borehamwood Brookmeadow provided £100 and £50 has been given by Cllr Victor Eni of Borehamwood Kenilworth.

The money will turn an area of overgrown land in to a nature area, to provide opportunities for practical outdoor fun and physical interactions with nature to support learning and development within the school.

School fayre gets a treat

Cllr Victor Eni of Borehamwood Kenilworth provided £50 to Woodlands School and Parent’s Association for selection boxes given out by Santa at their school fayre.

Serving up for sixty plus

Sixty plus, a lunch club for the over 60s in Potters Bar and South Mimms, has been given £235 by Cllr Peter Knell of Potters Bar Furzefield to purchase new dinner plates.

Christmas dinner with new friends

Local people who would be alone on Christmas Day benefitted from company and a free Christmas dinner, thanks to funding from a local councillor.

Cllr Pete Rutledge, from Bushey St James ward, allocated £350 in funding to help Bushey Parochial Church Council provide a Christmas dinner at an event for those alone on Christmas Day or to receive a hand delivered meal for those people alone and housebound.

Playing in style

Potters Bar District under 11s football team will be playing in a new kit, thanks to £200 funding from Cllr Ruth Lyons, ward councillor for Potters Bar Oakmere.

Christmas spirit

Christmas had more sparkle this year, thanks to funding from the council.

Borehamwood Cowley Hill Cllrs Richard Butler and Michelle Vince, gave £250 and £100 respectively for decorations, lights and refreshments for a Christmas event at the Community Shop in Borehamwood.
