This weekend Jump Monk will perform at Herts Jazz Club weekly concert.

Led by double bassist Arnie Somogyi, Jump Monk pays tribute to two of the greatest composers in jazz: Thelonious Monk and Charles Mingus whose single title is where the group got their name from.

Arnie has played on over 50 albums, including four as a leader, and has worked, recorded and performed with many of the world’s leading jazz musicians including James Moody, Bobby Hutcherson, Eddie Henderson, Scott Hamilton, and The Mingus Big Band. As well as international stars including Tom Jones, Charlie Watts and Amy Winehouse. 

The line-up includes some of the leading figures in British jazz including Tony Kofi on the saxophone, Mark Edwards on piano and Clark Tracey, drums.

Established in 1969, Herts Jazz has become a renowned venue for jazz fans young and old. Gigs featuring the very best jazz talent in the country happen every Sunday at 7.30pm at the brand new Screen 2 auditorium at the Hawthorne Theatre, Welwyn Garden City.

The gigs have a very relaxed atmosphere where music is top of the agenda for aficionados and newcomers alike.
