I like art. No, I really like doodling, to be more frank. In fact, I choose drawing as one of the things I'd do all day (binging on Netflix is also considered here as a great side-option).

However what occurred to me, as I sat down at the kitchen table doodling in a face, was why? Why do we draw pictures, narrate stories and make films? What makes us feel the need to express ourselves?

Some people think that it is to cope with stress as my classmate Subhanki suggests that art is to "bring out all the feelings and emotions we have hidden in our minds". Some like me believe it is a way of communicating to people or a means of satisfaction.

However, physiologist Jared Diamond whom has done studies on the bower-building that is practiced by bowerbirds, think art to be of evolutionary means. Bowerbirds males build little towers of sticks and stones decorated with fruits, flowers, and butterfly wings. They do this to attract potential female mates, who rate the attractiveness of mates on the beauty and creativity of the bowers potential mates have built.

Birds and humans are not the only ones who join in with the artistic crowd- elephants, bees, seals and gorillas are involved too! No, I'm not kidding, Youtube's got evidence. (https://youtu.be/4KW5y7SmQq4)

But going back to the psychological nature of this question, I take pictures of pretty things and express my abstract thoughts on paper. I do this as it provides a certain satisfaction and it serves me content in having such a collection of beauties (blurs and scribbles)  in captured frames.
