It is worrying to hear when an authority whose prime responsibility is keeping the public safe are not investigating an horrific crime.
On Friday night a man was headbutted by another in what appears to be an unprovoked attack.
These sorts of fights do often happen due to the consumption of alcohol but it is always calming to know that the police are there to protect the innocent.
However, this beckons two questions as to where the police were on Friday night to stop something like this happening and more concerning why is nothing being done following on from the attack?
The police have now said they are looking into the attack but it was only after someone reported the crime to them.
There is a video detailing the entire attack which has been in the public domain for nearly a week, so surely the police do not need to have some report it to them when they can see it themselves?
They know the location, they know the night it happened and they can see what occurred so why does it take so long? It seems ridiculous and bizarre this is the sole reason an investigation has not been started until Thursday.
It may have been because the victim does not want to continue with the investigation after being headbutted twice but maybe the police should have been looking into why this happened straight away?
Alcohol does make people do some things they would not normally do and on a Friday night when the town is full of intoxicated men and women there is a noticeable police presence.
But after this happened should there be more on the weekend? The fight happened inside a takeaway further down the High Street away from the bars and nightclubs but does this mean police will not be patrolling areas away from where people will be drinking?
It was only a few months ago when a girl was raped near Sainsbury's. It seems police need to be more focussed on their main job to protect people.
