THREE RIVERS:

A charity is looking for volunteers from Watford, Three Rivers and Hertsmere. Home Start, which offers support and advice to local families, is looking for people to join their team to help with fundraising events, advise families or work in their community shop. A local theatre group will be staging a show for the Michael Sobell Hospice. The Pastiche Musical Theatre group will be performing Hello, Dolly! to celebrate its 40th production and the hospice’s 40th anniversary. Residents are invited to give their views on a new hospital in west Hertfordshire. The meeting, which is organised by Rosalind Ridout, will be held at Chorleywood War Memorial Hall in Common Road, Chorleywood. It starts at 7.30pm on March 24. For more information, call 01442 864243. A published poet will be a guest speaker at a breakfast for women in Chorleywood. Caroline Smith will speak at the event at Christ Church on the Common, at 8.30am on March 18. The talk will include readings from her latest collection of poems, called The Immigration Handbook. To celebrate its 70th anniversary, a choral society will be performing Messiah. Chipperfield Choral Society, which started in 1947 with a small group of musicians, has grown over the last 70 years and now has more than 100 members. To celebrate, it will be performing Messiah at the Great Hall of the Royal Masonic School in Rickmansworth, on April 1. THE LANGLEYS:

Hertfordshire County Council Community Learning Disability Nursing Service and the Community Assessment and Treatment Service are hosting a Dysphagia and Nutrition event for people with learning disabilities and their carers on March 17 at Kings Langley Community Centre.

Kings Langley Methodist Church will be holding its Spring Fayre on Saturday from 10am until 1pm. Coffee will be served throughout and light lunches will be available. There will be a variety of stalls including cakes, preserves, handicrafts etc. and this year there will be a well-stocked teddy tombola.

WATFORD:

A local theatre charity has received £3,685 from John Lewis to put towards its summer activity programme. Herts Inclusive Theatre (HIT) works with children, young people and adults of all abilities to build confidence and social inclusion through theatre and creative projects. Producer Emma Harrington said: “Because of this donation we are able to offer two, one-week holiday activities in the county – we can’t wait for the summer holidays to start.” HIT activities include drama, movement, music and theatre skills which help children and young people to develop their communication skills as well as helping them to make friends.

Can you spare an hour or so on Saturday to help deliver the Spring 2017 edition of WestWatch? People from West Watford Community Centre will be delivering the newsletter on Saturday, leaving the community centre at 9.30am. The group tries to make it as fun as possible by giving a set round to complete with a group of four people; this should take about an hour. If enough volunteers help out, the group will be able to get all 3,000 copies delivered in a couple of hours.

BUSHEY:

Community Hertsmere announced the opening of a new outreach site in Bushey on Wednesday. To enable residents to have easy access to the team and to meet staff face to face the new outreach, will be open every Wednesday from 1pm – 4pm at Hertsmere Citizen’s Advice, 8 Rudolph Road, Bushey, WD23 3DU. The will be a Mother’s Day afternoon tea at Royal Oak, in Sparrows Herne, in Bushey. The event will be held on March 26 and tables will be laid with vintage table cloths, bone China cups and saucers. There will be freshly made finger sandwiches, fruit scones, homemade cakes and mums will receive a small gift from them.

The Bushey spring fair and launch of the George Michael appreciation society will take place on March 25. The event is free and there will be lots of Easter eggs to be won. There will be various stalls including raffle, flowers and plants, gifts, community stalls, farmers’ market, beer tent and many others. The event will run from 10.30am to 3pm.
