A new exhibition explores traditional landscape presentation by mixing the practice of fine art and photography.

In Landscape Beyond the Lens, at the Radlett Centre, each of the original landscape photographic images taken by Judith L Kelly, have been individually developed using software enhancements to give a unique interpretation of that particular place, from the coast of Scotland and the more local countryside.

These are juxtaposed with images exploring shapes, textures and colours as glimpsed by the camera from moving car or otherwise moving the camera whilst taking the image.

Judith has been developing her long-standing interest in photography more seriously over the last few years. She joined the Harpenden Photographic Society in September 2014 and exhibited at their Annual Exhibition.

She also had her own exhibition of prints at the Art on the Common event in Harpenden, both in 2015 and 2016, as well as exhibiting at the Kimpton Art show in Hitchin in 2016.

In February of this year Judith was awarded the distinction of Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society, one of the earliest organisations of its kind in the UK.

It is now is an educational charity with a Royal Charter. It was founded in 1853 ‘to promote the Art and Science of photography’.

To achieve the level of Licentiate, she had to submit a panel of ten prints that showed a variety of approach and technique, creative ability, a high technical standard and range of photographic skills. This was assessed by a qualified Panel of senior members of the society.

Over 1,000 applications for Licentiate, Associate and Fellowship are received each year with around 600 being successful.

Judith enjoys the challenge of photographing a wide range of subject matter, with a preference for natural forms and landscape.
