Pupils are jumping for joy after placing third in a London-wide netball tournament.

The team of year six pupils from Harrow’s Aylward Primary School, Pangbourne Drive achieved a bronze medal in the London Youth Games High 5 netball competition.

Teams from all 33 London boroughs competed at Crystal Palace Sports Centre Ledrington Road, on March 23.

The Aylward athlete’s placed in the top 16 of the morning’s matches and went onto to be the top of their group in the afternoon before competing in the semi-finals.

Students tied for third alongside Kingston’s Holy Cross Preparatory School, George Road with both teams reaching a total of 43 points.

Marshgate Primary School of Queen’s Road, Richmond, came second with Hillingdon’s Newnham Primary School, School Hill being crowned the overall winners.

The squad competed to represent Harrow after a series of matches against other schools in the borough earlier in the school term.

Aylward’s coach Vickie Moore said: “The children have trained extremely hard, we are very proud of their achievements.”

Year six pupil Aimee Jones said: “It was the best thing I’ve ever taken part in, we were so thrilled that we came third out of the whole of London.”
