Bushey-born George Michael was finally laid to rest today - 94 days after he died on Christmas Day at the age of just 53.

The superstar singer's last boyfriend Fadi Fawaz was the final person to arrive for the private service at Highgate Cemetery in north London this afternoon.

George - who went to Bushey Meads - is expected to be buried alongside his mother in the cemetery a the conclusion of the service which was being conducted in the Chapel of Rest which was obscured from view by a large black tarpaulin.

Family and close friends paid their final respects to Careless Whisper singer at a strictly private funeral organised by George's sister Melanie Panayiotou.

Admittance was by invite only, to the disgust of some of the singer's old pals.

A total of 16 blacked out limousines, including Mercedes and Jaguars, but no hearse was seen to arrive for the 2pm service.

The drivers held up numbers printed on paper before burly security staff on the gates let them through.

The body of the singer, who was found dead at his mansion in Oxfordshire, is believed to have arrived inside a private ambulance.

It is believed he will be buried next to his mum Lesley Panayiotou, who died of cancer in 1997.

No hearse was seen entering the cemetery and all mourners arrived in vehicles.

George's body was only released earlier this month by the Oxfordshire Coroner following a series of tests to determine the cause of death.

A post mortem eventually concluded that he died of natural causes.

George's former Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgeley was understood to have left his home and spent the night in London before attending the service.

As cars drove through the gates security put up black tarpaulin across the cemetery's gates and fencing.

Fadi, who left George's Regent's Park home at 1.30pm, arrived in a black Mercedes shortly before the 2pm service began.

From 6am this morning metal fencing was erected at the Cemetery and a team of more than a dozen security guards gathered inside the cemetery gates.

Gary Chenery, a friend of George's who met him while running a nightclub in Islington, north London during the 90s, said: "I heard Andrew Ridgely had come up from Devon last night and spent the night in London.

"I have known George since I was 19, he would be horrified by this.

"The family have had the body for three weeks and there is no excuse for it to be that long.

"I feel cheated. Wwhere is the respect?

"He had a lot of friends outside of his family, All I wanted to say was goodbye."

A wake is believed to be taking place later at the singer's multi-million pound mansion in nearby Highgate Village.
