A man has pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey to the manslaughter of a teenager on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Idris Hassan, 18, of Gledwood Gardens, Hayes pleaded guilty on Monday, 24 April, to killing 18-year-old Lance Scott Walker.

Hassan was sentenced the same day to a Hospital Order under Section 37 of the Mental Health Act 1983 with a restriction under Section 41 of the same Act.

Detective Inspector Simon Deefholts of the Homicide and Major Crime Command said: "This is a tragic loss of a young life and our thoughts are with Lance's family.

"At the time of the killing, Idris Hassan was suffering with a mental health disorder and, whilst awaiting trial, he has received treatment for his condition.

"Experts in forensic psychiatry are of the opinion that at the time of the killing Hassan's mental responsibility was substantially impaired.

"Today he has been sentenced to a hospital order. I hope that Lance's family can draw some comfort from this guilty plea and sentence."

Lance was fatally stabbed on the afternoon of 15 August 2016 at the shared accommodation in Gledwood Gardens where they both lived.

Hassan had moved into the house some two weeks before, and had been involved in a number of disputes with Lance.

Shortly before 4pm that afternoon, Hassan armed himself with a kitchen knife and went to the staff office where he stabbed Lance twice in the back.

Lance managed to jump through the ground floor window in an attempt to escape, however Hassan gave chase and when Lance collapsed to the ground, Hassan renewed his attack stabbing him several more times in the back.

Police officers and London Ambulance Service attended, however Lance died in the street near to the address just over half an hour later.

Hassan was arrested a short time later near to the scene. He had disposed of the knife and his outer clothing, but they were recovered nearby.

An investigation was carried out by officers from the Homicide and Major Crime Command. A post-mortem examination the following day gave cause of death as stab wounds.

Hassan appeared in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on 17 August 2016 and was remanded to appear at the Old Bailey.
