Young Watford FC fan Ossie Robinson was named Supporter of the Season at the club’s end of season awards evening at Wembley Stadium on Monday.

The 11-year-old from Watford died earlier this month after several years battling neuroblastoma – a rare cancer of the nervous system that affects children.

At the star-studded awards ceremony, an emotional video was shown of players recalling their memories of the avid young hornet.

“He knew everything about everyone. He told me how bad I was, told me I should score more goals,” joked talismanic captain Troy Deeney.

“He didn’t let the illness faze him, didn’t let his mum and dad get down. I can’t even imagine what the family must be going through.

“As outsiders we just tried to help whenever we could. A great family and a great kid – you can’t say it any more clearly than that. His presence will be sorely missed, not just now but in the future.”

Goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes fought back tears as he recalled Ossie’s brave battle with cancer, calling him a hero and a “great kid”.

Towering Austrian defender Sebastian Prodl, who was named this year’s player of the season, said Ossie was the biggest Watford supporter he has met so far in his two seasons at the club.

“He was passionate about football, passionate about us, passionate about the whole game, and he was just a great lad. I was really happy to meet him because these people inspire me,” he added.
