IT’S Pop It’s Art is a series of limited-edition, silkscreen typography prints featuring lyrics made famous by musical legends.

Three of them are by Ealing-born and bred Alex May Hughes, including the one featured here of I Fought The Law by The Clash.

Her other contributions are Our House by Madness and Son Of A Preacher Man, made famous by Dusty Springfield and Aretha Franklin.

Each artwork is inspired by songs in the Sony/ATV Music Publishing collection and is officially licensed.

Each comes in a limited run of 150 copies priced at £225 (framed) and £150 (unframed).

Alex May Hughes is a sign painter and glass gilder, who graduated from The London College of Communication, where she studied typography, developing her interest in traditional Victorian signage and mirrors.

She said: “One of my earliest memories is watching old episodes of The Young Ones that my dad had recorded on to VHS at home.

“That was the first time I remember seeing Madness on TV, performing House Of Fun. I loved the chaos of it all, so it was truly an honour to create the Our House design.

“The first time I heard Son Of A Preacher Man was in Pulp Fiction, the scene where Vincent is about to meet Mia. I had her red lipstick in mind when I was creating the design for the poster.

“I had a copy of The Clash’s London Calling handed down to me from my older brother. It’s a faultless record and I would've been happy making a design for any of the songs from it.”
