A Watford business owner is joining car enthusiasts to lap the M25 for bereaved children of soldiers.

John Emberton, a fan of Volkswagens, will join other VW cars, vans and campers in lapping the M25 in convoy to raise funds for Scotty's Little Soldiers, a charity support bereaved Armed Forces children.

The challenge, named "Run the Ring", was conceived in 2016 and last year brought 400 vehicles together and raised more than £10,000 for the charity.

Mr Emberton and his colleague, Amanda, are hoping "Run the Ring 2" will raise even more money with a £15,000 target and an estimated 600 vehicles expected to take part on September 24.

Mr Emberton said: "Scotty’s Little Soldiers is an incredible charity with amazing values.

"Hearing about the work the charity does for children who have lost someone important to them is why we feel so passionate about raising the money in our own unique way."

The event was inspired by the German Nürburgring track and began as a "bonkers" idea which attracted huge attention in the VW community.

Scotty’s Little Soldiers founder, Nikki Scott, said: "It’s such a cool idea that brings together people who are passionate about the same thing.

"We’re so grateful that they’ve chosen us to raise money for this year and I imagine it’s quite a sight seeing so many VW’s together on their drive. I can’t wait to ride in one of the VW’s on the day and see everyone out in force."
