A mother is fed up of “unsettling” her young children by moving around temporary accommodation after being unable to live at her home for a year due to damage from a sewage leak.

Joanne Carr, who has lived in Cardiff Road, Watford, for 11 years, is “frustrated” that her home has not been cleaned after a pipe collapsed outside her property in September 2016 and caused her kitchen to flood.

Although the pipe was fixed promptly, the 32-year-old says Halifax Home Insurance have “failed to clean or replace the contaminated items".

Ms Carr says she has moved around six hotels and temporary places to live in the past year but is currently staying at her mother’s house in Watford with her children, aged seven and four, while her partner is living in Wembley as there is not enough room for them all.

She said: “It is ridiculous. I have had a lot of trouble and have had to move so many times. It’s not acceptable that I am having to stay in my mother’s house with my children and my partner has gone to Wembley because there is not enough space.

“I feel ignored and as though my problems have not been taken seriously, as the contaminated items such as the carpet and kitchen units are still in my house.

“It is disgusting and I cannot believe what we have had to go through. My children are really unsettled and do not know if they are coming or going.”

Halifax Home Insurance was unable to provide a comment.
