THE Effect by Lucy Prebble is to be performed at The Questors Theatre, Mattock Lane, Ealing. The play deals with a trial for a new anti-depressant drug and its consequences.
Tristan and Connie are guinea pigs in the clinical trial. Locked-in for the duration of the trial, they develop intense feelings for each other, but is it love or a side-effect?
Director Hannah Webster says of the play: “It’s incredibly relevant. Depression will be one of the biggest health issues affecting our generation.”
The production comes hot on the heels of the announcement that real life researchers at Imperial College, London, have recently found that “magic mushrooms” or, more precisely, the pro-drug compound Psilocybin, could relieve depression symptoms in sufferers by “re-setting” the brain.
