To celebrate its first anniversary, a Watford primary school held an international-themed party.

St John's Church of England Primary School in Estcourt Road, where the school is temporarily based, had an international-themed party to celebrate its first anniversary, inspired by the diverse community in which it works.

Parents and friends of the school shared home-cooked dishes from a variety of world cuisines and local restaurant Taboush, in Market Street, contributed platters of Turkish food and children and staff celebrated with music and displays from all over the world.

Headteacher Helen Langeveld said: "Being part of this exciting journey and designing a new school for these wonderful children and families has been a privilege.

"Tonight has been a reflection of the fabulous school family and community that we are embracing."

The school opened in September 2016 in its temporary site while pupils wait to move into the purpose-built school in Clarendon Road, where they will welcome their third intake of reception-aged children in September 2018.

Father David Stevenson, the school's founder, said: "I am so proud of our wonderful school, our first year has been fantastic and the children have really flourished.

"We may only be a little school but we definitely have big plans for the future."
