More schools have been celebrating a seal of approval from the Mayor of London as part of a programme aimed at improving education across the city.

Heathland School and Whitefriars School in Harrow have been named on Sadiq Khan’s ‘Schools for Success’ scheme, which recognises excellence in London schools.

The project is part of his plan to tackle education inequality and increase standards for all schoolchildren in the capital, whatever their background.

These two schools are among the latest in Harrow to be praised for the attainment and progress made by students across the board, irrespective of their starting points.

Executive head teacher of the Heathland Whitefriars Federation, Lucy Caswell, said: “I am proud and delighted that both our amazing schools have been recognised for the work we do to support our learners in achieving excellence in their learning.”

The overall hope is that schools on the programme will share their practices and experiences to improve the overall state of education in London.

So far, 102 schools have been invited onto the scheme. They are being asked to share their work through seminars and hosting school visits so others might benefit from their successful approaches.

Mr Khan passed his congratulations onto Heathland and Whitefriars and noted how the Schools for Success project shows “the huge difference good quality teaching can make to pupils who started off behind in their studies”.
