A stained-glass window box, which was hidden in a church for more than 150 years, is set to be dedicated to one of its most committed members.
The “Victorian Masterpiece”, which was designed by Irish artist Michael O’Connor, hangs in All Saints Church in Uxbridge Road, Harrow Weald.
It was commissioned by renowned publisher Thomas Boys, who dedicated it to the memory of his son, George Edwin, who died aged 17 in 1850.
This will now be shared by Gillian Lewis, founder of the Friends of All Saints, who died earlier this year.
The original window never made it up following George’s burial and was recently discovered in four loose panels in the church’s choir loft.
After work from the Friends of All Saints, stained-glass window restorers Chapel Studios and carpenter Doug Pullinger, the window box was finally created as intended.
It will be dedicated to Gillian on October 30.
