Harlequins face a stern test in their opening Anglo-Welsh Cup fixture of the campaign as they head to Allianz Park to face Saracens on Sunday afternoon.

Both teams have lifted the trophy in recent seasons, Quins in 2013 and Sarries two years later, and the latter go into Sunday’s clash on the back of a seven-game winning streak.

Quins are set to rest several first-team players and a number of youngsters have been given the chance to prove themselves, with six of their forwards having made fewer than ten appearances for the club.

James Chisolm has been named as captain for the match, and the 22-year-old will be looking to spur the team on after the distraction of Marland Yarde’s departure to Sale Sharks this week.

Harlequins coach Mark Mapletoft said: “Sunday provides a fantastic opportunity for a lot of our players who haven’t made many starts this year, in both Europe and the Aviva Premiership, and for those who played well in the A team game last Sunday.

“Saracens are a formidable side, they are the benchmark in England and we will need to be at our best to get the right result on Sunday.”

Saracens have also opted to field an inexperienced side as they look to rest several of their big names.

Sarries captain Brad Barritt added: “Some lads have waited a few weeks to show what they can do, and this competition is important for players to put their hand up and remind everyone of their talent and worth to the team.”
