Want to have a say in renaming a park?

Ridge Residents Association and Nascot councillors are consulting with people in the area to decide a new name for North Watford Playing fields.

The councillors say that people have been asking for many years why the fields, off Ridge Lane, have that name when they are not in North Watford; are not playing fields, and have a woodland.

Council officers are now being encouraged to consider renaming the park but want to hear more suggestions too.

The options so far are:

• North Watford Park

• Orchard Park – reflecting the proximity of the school on Gammons Lane

• Nara Wood Recreation Ground – reflecting a house that occupied the site and is the name used to describe the woodland

• Or no change

Cllr Jane Johnson said: “I have engaged with local residents over the last couple of years to make improvements to the park, in the summer work was completed to upgrade the tennis courts, the notice board repaired and earlier this year we secured a Green Flag Award.

“I hope this new consultation will bring an even greater boost to the local area.”

Deputy Mayor Peter Taylor added: "This move to change the name of North Watford Playing Fields is part of our efforts to involve residents in local decision making and find out how we can further improve the area.

"I'm keen to hear from residents from across the town to see how we can enhance their experience of local parks and open spaces." he added.

Proposals have also been tabled to install cricket practice facilities in the new look park to encourage young people in the area to take up sports, following representations from sports groups.
