North Watford councillors have embarked on a mission to ensure 50 broken street lights are fixed.

County Councillor Asif Khan, who also represents the Leggatts Ward, walked around the area with Leggatts Councillor Richard Smith and Ahsan Khan, who represents Callowland ward, and discovered that a number of lampposts were not working.

They contacted Hertfordshire County Council over concerns about the safety of people as the dark and cold nights start to creep in, but say they are still yet to be fixed.

Cllr Asif Khan said: “It's not on that so many lights are out.

“With the days getting shorter and it darker earlier, it is more important than ever to ensure that our street lights are working.”

Cllr Richard Smith added: "I was shocked at the amount of lights that were out, they need to sort them out, people need to feel safe and having street lights on gives them this security."

Cllr Ahsan Khan said they checked each street light in every road of North Watford.

He said: "We walked around in the cold evening, checking each street light in every road, and reported to Herts Highways each one that needed to be repaired.

“It is something that residents want."

Hertfordshire County Council has been contacted for a comment.
