The Orchard Theatre in Dartford opened its doors to our Young Reporter Scheme, offering them the opportunity to attend their shows and write up articles for publication on This is Local London.

A large number of students applied for this prestigious opportunity and two productions have already been covered - The New Jersey Boys and Cilla the Musical.

A spokesperson from The Orchard Theatre, Dartford said: “We are passionate about supporting young people’s interest in live theatre. Being a part of this scheme not only helps us to do this but also allows us to give students a taste of what it is like to work in arts journalism.”

This month two more students were given the chance to report on Tchaikovsky’s most famous ballet, The Nutcracker and Crazy for You, the musical sure to get you in excellent spirits with its high kicks and plenty of glamour.

Ishana Seward from Sutton High School, winner of the tickets for Crazy for You, said: "It was a high energy, high drama and highly entertaining performance.  An amazing opportunity and an unforgettable night."

Having spoken to various members of the public during the interval, she added that the local people felt The Orchard Theatre was the best part of Dartford and they were impressed with the actors’ versatility being able to sing, dance and play an instrument at the same time.

Samira Chowdhury from Woodford County High School, won tickets to cover The Nutcracker, which was performed by The Moscow City Ballet.  She said: "My experience of The Nutcracker will be one that I will never forget.

"Being the first ever ballet I have ever attended, the event was very exciting and did not fail to disappoint.

"The beautiful scenery and costumes were all captivating, but the majestic dances were definitely my favourite part of the experience."

More opportunities are still to come, as theatres around Greater London and Sussex have made similar offers. This is a fantastic chance for students to not only have an excellent night of entertainment but understand what it is like to attend these type of events as a journalist.
