TOM FLETCHER’S fascination with time travel inspired his latest World Book Day title Brain Freeze.

The latest children’s book from the 32-year-old McFly frontman turned best-selling author from Harrow will cost £1 or can be exchanged for a book token in the initiative to get more young people reading.

The dad of two whose band is named after Marty McFly from Back to the Future is still a big kid at heart and this is reflected in his latest book about a time-travelling ice-cream van and a girl who can freeze time if she eats enough of the frozen treat.

“I’ve always had a fascination with time travel and everyone loves ice cream!” he said.

The Northwood resident also revealed the first in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series had the biggest impact on him of any book on his life.

“It was the first time I really understood how you can become lost in a world inside a book,” he said.

And if the book worm could be any literary character?

“I would be James, the boy in The Snowman. Doesn’t every kid wish their snowman would come to life and take them flying? I still find that book so magical,” he explained.

In the run up to World Book Day on March 1 Fletcher recalls his fondest memory from reading as a child.

He said: “My parents read to me every night. I loved story time.

“They made it magical and fun. Dr Seuss, Raymond Briggs, the classics!

“My dad also made up stories about a dragon which were brilliant.”

Fletcher’s advice for budding young authors?

“Write. Don’t wait. Just write as much as you can (and read, obviously),” he said.
