The community centre at a doomed country club could stay open after council bosses allocated £70,000 to protect the site.

At an executive meeting at Hertsmere Borough Council on Wednesday, proposals to protect Bushey Country Club after its closure were unanimously approved.

The country club will officially close on April 1 but there will be a public consultation to decide the future of the site after its closure.

The £70,000 allocation from the Investment Income budget will help fund security measures to stop encroachment onto the site during the consultation period.

Security patrols are expected to be in place for at least eight weeks, starting in April. Parking enforcement will also be introduced in the car park.

However, despite the site closure, which includes the golf club, the 70,000 could mean the community centre remains operational after April 1 until a final decision is made on the whole site.

Full details are expected to be outlined later this month.
