TWO men who sprayed a noxious substance at another were convicted on Friday. One had been arrested after trying to escape through a window in Hillingdon.

Jonathan Fernando, 33, of Oakwood Road, Pinner, was found guilty at Isleworth Crown Court of administering a substance, robbery and dangerous driving.

Harrison Bryson, 20, of no fixed address, admitted the first two offences. They will be sentenced next month.

The incident took place at around 10.25pm in August last year while the 25-year-old victim was parked up in his car on Oakwood Road, near Hazelwood Drive.

He wound down his window when Fernando and Bryson, who were both unknown to him, knocked on it.

Bryson sprayed a corrosive substance directly onto the victim's face, eyes and upper body.

The victim felt an instant burning sensation and got out of the car in shock.

The assailants got in, with Fernando in the driver's seat and drove off.

The victim headed back towards his home to wash away the substance and called the police.

An ambulance crew deemed the victim would have no lasting injuries. He was left with reddening to his face, neck, left arm and a bloodshot left eye but has since made a full recovery.

While in the car, a Mercedes, Fernando drove into two stationary cars causing extensive damage to all three vehicles, as well as crashing into a house at Haydon Drive and a wall in Wiltshire Lane, Harrow.

Fernando and Bryson can be seen on CCTV getting out of the car and fleeing after searching it for the victim's valuables.

The car was found abandoned in Wiltshire Lane and forensic evidence linking Fernando and Bryson to the crime was recovered.

The following day, the victim was in the front passenger seat of his friend's car when he recognised Fernando and Bryson in the area where he was attacked. He immediately called police.

Fernando was later arrested in Oakdene Road, Hillingdon after he attempted to evade arrest by climbing out of a window. Bryson was picked at an address in Thirlmere Gardens, Northwood.

Det Con Stephen Rothwell said: "These two men used a corrosive substance to incapacitate the victim before stealing his car.

"We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure criminals like these are behind bars and off our streets."
