Election fever is sweeping the country, well almost everywhere.

Councils are gearing up as seats are hotly contested ahead of the elections today, including in neighbouring authorities such as Watford, St Albans, Barnet, and Three Rivers.

But not in Hertsmere.

There will be no elections in our borough until next year.

Following public consultation, in 2015 Hertsmere Borough Council changed its electoral cycle to whole council elections.

This means that all seats on the council are elected at the same time, once every four years.

The last election in the borough took place in 2015 where the Conservatives won 37 seats and Labour won the remaining two.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Morris Bright, said: “We changed the election process from election by thirds to whole council elections following public consultation.

“A number of residents have contacted the council to ask about Hertsmere’s elections, because they have seen messages from neighbouring authorities.

“Please be reassured that our diligent elections team would be putting out messages and information about elections, should they be taking place. Our website is also a great resource for information about what is happening within the borough, so you can always check for updates there.”

The next scheduled whole council election will take place in May 2019, unless there is a by-election before that date.
