A lifelong supporter of a memorial club has donated a substantial cheque to a major charity organisation in his will.

Roy Derick Andrew, 86, of College Road in Harrow Weald left an “interim legacy” of £100,000 to Macmillan Cancer Support before his death in 2016.

Roy was a longstanding member of the Harrow Weald Memorial Club and its president and friend to Roy, Sean O’Kelly presented a cheque to Macmillan Cancer Support’s fundraising manager, Angela Kelly on April 15.

Sean, who has been club president for the last 8 years, said: “Roy’s sister-in-law died from throat cancer and Macmillan were so kind to her at the time.

“I think that influenced his decision to make the donation.”

The interim cheque is a portion of a larger donation to Macmillan said to be a few hundred thousand pounds once Roy’s property is sold.

Sean said Roy had been a member of the memorial club for more than 40 years and described him as one of the most “outstanding gentleman”, adding: “He was always immaculately dressed and loved by everyone. Very prim and proper.”

Sean, who met Roy at the memorial club and knew him for over 30 years said he had worked in the printing industry for ten years and then in the City as a messenger. The Bank of England offered him the role at 70-years-old because he was “so trustworthy”.

Roy reportedly also loved playing golf at Bushey Hall Golf Club.
Sean said: “Roy and I used to go out disco dancing 5 nights a week but by the weekend Roy said he was all ‘discoed’ out.

“He was a lovely man that will be sadly missed by the club."
