A TOTAL of 100 young people from schools and clubs across Ealing came together to receive Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards presented at Greenford Assembly Hall on Wednesday (25).

The winners, aged 11-25, received medallions to go with their framed certificate and a cheque for £250 each, already presented. They were nominated by their peers and leaders.

Youth organisations and schools in Ealing have received £679,191 from the Jack Petchey Foundation since funding started in 2003.

Winners included Ismail Ahmed, 16, who attends Alec Reed Academy. Ismail is known as Mr Motivator. Every morning before school he sends Year 11s a motivational quote for the day through social media. Ismail decided to spend his £250 award on equipment for the school.

Mohamed Ali, 15, attends Dormers Wells High School. He has been ranked first in England in cross-country running. He will spend his £250 on athletics vests for his school.

Ayomide (Ayo) Jolaoso, 14, goes to Cardinal Wiseman School. Ayo is a talented sportswoman who has represented the school in various sports. Her determination won her this award. Ayo has been very unlucky, sustaining two serious injuries in different football matches. Her £250 will go on football kits for her school team.

Afua Asiedu, 15, attends Dormers Wells High School. Afua supported her peers at a difficult time for the school following the death of a member of staff.  She was a key member of the committee organising the memorial service. Her £250 will go towards the Year 11 Prom.


Berrin Wright, 11, goes to Northolt High School. Her school said her attitude to learning was second to none, despite suffering from sickle cell anaemia which sometimes makes her particularly tired. She never uses it as an excuse. Berrin’s £250 will partially fund a mobility scooter for herself and future students.

Sir Jack, now 92, founded the Jack Petchey Foundation in 1999 to recognise the positive contributions young people make to society.
