THE Harefield-based Dogs Trust West London held its own World Cup sweepstake this week to mark the start of the tournament.

Taylor the eight-year-old crossbreed picked England, Eric the one-year-old boxer chose Brazil, Smokey the 11-year-old labrador bagged Belgium, and Spike the eight-year-old Staffie took a chance on France.

Rehoming centre manager Richard Moore said: “We’re all very interested to see which of our dogs had the foresight to pick the World Cup winner!

“While we always do our best to make all of our canine residents feel like champions, the ultimate goal is finding their forever home.

"If you’re looking for somebody to share your sofa with this World Cup, come down to the centre and meet our wonderful hounds.”

The centre cared for 700 dogs last year and has already rehomed 270 this year. If you are interested in adopting, contact the centre on 0300 303 0292.

EIGHT hundred recycled duvets have been donated to the rehoming centre by Hillingdon Council to give the dogs a comfier living space.

The duvets were left by Brunel University students at the end of the academic year and delivered to Harefield.

This has been an ongoing annual partnership for a number of years and an effective recycling initiative.
