Thousands of women have united against cancer by taking part in a charity run.

Over 2,200 women took their place at the start line to help beat the disease at Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life at Watford’s Cassiobury Park on June 10.

500 children and parents also took part in Cancer Research UK's Pretty Muddy Kids.

Courtney Culverhouse, Cancer Research UK’s Hertfordshire events manager said that life-saving research was funded thanks to the people of Watford who joined the Race for Life.

Ms Culverhouse said: “By taking part and raising money, our participants play a crucial role in helping to turn discoveries made in the lab into new, better treatments for patients in Hertfordshire and across the UK.

“We’d like to thank everyone who took part in the events at the weekend.

“We simply could not have put the events on without them.”

Three women, two of whom work at the Signature at Elton House Care and Nursing home in Elton Way, Watford ran Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life on June 10.

General manger Victoria Forsythe, receptionist Annette Gilbey and her daughter Alison raised £150 at the run.

Supporting each other during the race they braved the heat and completed the 10K race in 62 minutes.

Victoria said at the finish line: “We have met some truly amazing people today at the race.

“A true community spirit encouraging everyone to keep going on such a hot day.

“Signature at Elton House will be working alongside many people that took part today, we look forward to seeing them at our brand new care home”
