A school were joined by an Israeli diplomat as it marked 70 years of independence of Israel.

Immanuel College in Bushey invited Mark Regev, the ambassador of Israel to the UK since 2016, for a day of discussion and reflection. It was called 'Israel Get Connected Day'.

Mr Regev began the day talking about Israel's journey over the last 70 years including when it gained its independence in 1948 before battling a series of wars, which to this day continue.

Year 12 students were able to quiz Mr Regev on current issues involving Israel including Gaza and the West Bank, which soon turned into a heated debate.

Pupils at Immanuel College, an independent Jewish school, engaged with a host of guest speakers who spoke about Save a Child’s Heart, Sephardic Jews in Israel, Innovation, Arab-Israeli Relations and Charedi Israeli Women. They were also taught key components of Israeli education which may be vital when they leave school if they encounter anti-zionism.

The day, organised in conjunction with the UJIA, took place on July 10, and was broken up by an Israeli-themed lunch.
