The town centre's market is set to be renamed as one trader hailed a meeting and said he is looking forward as to what it is come.

The market will be called Watford Market again and a new operator has been found to run the site for a period of six months.

Watford Borough Council met with traders on Tuesday afternoon for a face-to-face meeting after doubts were raised over its future after it was revealed that operators Town & Country Markets were suffering financial difficulties.

But for one trader, Suren Vis, who runs Sweets for All, he said he is excited about the improvements that have been suggested for the market.

The council has announced that "experienced" contractor Market Asset Management will take over the site from September 3. Until then, the council will oversee the day-to-day running.

There are no plans to move the market.

Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: "There is a lot of positivity from the traders and we are keen to continue working with them to ensure a bright future.”
