Mum mugged by two youths

5:02pm Friday 12th January 2001

A MOTHER has two broken fingers and 16 stitches in her hand after being attacked by a serial mugger.

Police believe the 49-year-old woman was attacked by two youths on January 3, one of whom may have robbed another woman on January 5.

The victim, from Woolwich, was walking with her 15-year-old daughter down Woolwich Road, Charlton, at 6.15pm when they were attacked

They both received bruises to their legs and hips when they were pushed to the ground by the attackers. The mother was later taken to Greenwich District Hospital for treatment.

The robbery of the woman on January 5, also on Woolwich Road, Charlton, was reported in the News Shopper on January 10. Police think the crimes are connected because of the location and the use of a knife to cut the straps of the womens shoulder bags.

The victim of the attack on January 3, described one of robbers as Asian, 15-years-old, 5ft 7in tall and wearing a dark hooded top and dark coloured joggers.

The second suspect is thought to be black, aged 16, and 5ft 11in tall. He was wearing a dark-coloured hooded top.

If you have any information about either attacks, ring Catford CID on 020 8695 1212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
