7:00am Sunday 11th May 2008

THE leader of Hillingdon Council has praised a former British Airways boss for condemning airport expansion.

Councillor Ray Puddifoot backed Bob Ayling's comments about further expansion at Heathrow Airport.

Mr Ayling was chief executive at BA from 1996 to 2000 and branded proposals for a third runway and sixth terminal as a "costly mistake".

The council is part of the 2M Group which represents people under flight paths and affected by aircraft noise and pollution.

Cllr Puddifoot said: "There is no harm in telling the truth. I fully support Mr Ayling and I am sure many other people do too.

"The consultation into the expansion was such a sham, which so many vital pieces of information being missed out."

The campaign against the expansion of Heathrow continues with a major rally being held on Saturday, May 31.

Pressure groups, residents and politicians will unite to show how many people would be affected by expansion and highlight the masses of people who are against the proposals.

The march will start at Hatton Cross tube station at 12pm and protesters will walk via the Heathrow Perimeter Road and Bath Road to Sipson Recreation Ground, in Sipson Way.

In Sipson there will be speeches, stalls, food, drink and activities for children ranging from a bouncy castle to face painting.
