"Excellent" council staff praised

THE head of communication at Hillingdon Council has praised staff for their work after they won a host of prestigious awards.

The council was named Local Authority of the Year at the Good Communications Awards 2008 at a ceremony in Arsenal Football Club's Emirates Stadium.

David Holdstock, head of corporate communications, said: "This recognises the tremendous efforts that staff are making to improve the way we communicate and listen to our residents.

"Communicating with our residents and giving them information about what their council is doing for them and how we spend their money is one of our top priorities."

The authority also came away with two awards for its call centre, and a prize for their public relations team.

Lynn Smith, customer services manager, said: "I am absolutely delighted. The awards are due to the hard work of staff, who work tirelessly to ensure we provide an excellent service to the residents of Hillingdon."

The council's campaign against the expansion of Heathrow Airport was also commended at the ceremony on Thursday night.
