State-of-the-art school opens

A NEW state-of-the-art building at a Harefield school opened to welcome pupils on their first day.

The 18-month project at Harefield Academy has been completed in time for year seven students’ first day of term.

Guests including Ruislip and Northwood’s MP Nick Hurd and governor at the school and ward councillor, Richard Barnes were given a grand tour of the new school in Northwood Way.

They were shown the purpose built football training pitch, dance and gymnastic studio and modern technology fitted classrooms.

Headteacher Lynn Gadd, said: “The priority here is the pupils. The new school is important for them and designed specifically to give them a better learning environment.

“It has taken a long time to get this here and it was something we once dreamed of, but it is a pleasure to be able to welcome everyone here to see it complete.

“But the facilities are not just for students and parents to use but also for the community to make use of.”

Mr Barnes said: “What I like about it is Lynn talking about success.

“Putting the pupils first thinking about what they can do and they can achieve.

“Raising the expectations of the pupils, that is the most important thing.”

Ms Gadd explained it has taken around six year’s from start to finish, from when plans were sorted out with the sponsors of the Academy, including Hillingdon Council.

Mr Hurd said the difference from the old building to the new one was outstanding.

He said: “It used to be quite run down and the school has totally been transformed.

“But it is not just about the building, it is leadership of the school and learning environment for the students.”

The school has also teamed up with Watford FC to provide training session for youngsters with a passion for football.
