A NEW library, adult education facility, and flats are being planned for South Ruislip.

Leader of Hillingdon Council, councillor Ray Puddifoot, along with ward councillors Allan Kauffman and Judy Kelly, outlined the plans at a meeting with local residents this week.

Replacing the current library on the same site, the new South Ruislip library will be larger and include a Starbucks cafe, improved opening hours and book stock.

A purpose built adult education facility will also be included in the development, and new residential flats above both the library and adult education centre will be made available to Hillingdon residents at a reduced cost.

Young people in the borough also look set to benefit from the plans as a new youth centre offering a range of activities will be opened on the site formally used by Swallows.

Councillor Puddifoot said: "These developments are about providing something for the whole community. We're building on the success that we've had with our new libraries in other areas of the borough and combining this with providing the opportunity for residents to get on the property ladder, as we did in Ruislip Manor. Providing a new youth centre will also give all young people in Hillingdon the chance to take part in a range of activities and really maximise this site as a community resource."
