CONFUSION surrounds the planned U1 bus route in South Ruislip after residents heard the route had been scrapped.
Residents in South Ruislip were jubilant after a story appeared in a transport magazine revealing that plans for the U1 bus route through The Fairway and West Mead in South Ruislip had been axed.
Robin Kirby, 63, from The Fairway, told the Times: "If this is true then it's fantastic news, we have been fighting this all the way with the help of local councillors."
But Transport for London said the rumour was untrue, and no decision would be made until August.
Plans were for a bus service to run from Hillingdon Hospital to Ruislip station, and the route was set to go through residential streets in South Ruislip, including The Fairway, West Mead and Queens Walk. Residents said it would turn their quiet streets into a nightmare traffic area. TfL launched a consultation and were met with objections from residents and councillors.
In March this year, residents protested in the streets on a test run of the bus route, claiming the route was unsafe with narrow roads and schools nearby.
A spokesman for TfL said: "Plans have not been scrapped, nothing has been decided yet. We don't know where this information has come from, but as far as we are concerned there has been no decision made. The U1 bus service is currently being reviewed by our planning department."
