A DIABETES roadshow helped 225 people to find out more about diabetes at the Civic Centre forecourt in Uxbridge last week.

The Healthy Lifestyle Roadshow, presented by Diabetes UK and BUPA, offered free assessments which could predict the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes in the next 10 years.

Some 52% of people that attended the roadshow were referred to their GP for further advice, as their risk of diabetes was moderate to high.

Roz Rosenblatt, regional manager for Diabetes UK London, said: “It’s frightening that there are more than 3,500 people in Hillingdon PCT that have Type 2 diabetes but have no idea they do.

“I am pleased the roadshow was able to help people find out if they were at risk of the condition.”

Juanita Cabrera, 50, who lives in Uxbridge, said: “Taking this test made me more aware of how important it is to have a good balanced lifestyle.”

Adopting a healthy diet and doing regular exercise can significantly lower the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

Those unable to attend the show can take the free risk test online at www.diabetes.org.uk/roadshow/riskscore1. Those found to have a moderate or high risk of developing the condition should visit their GP.
