POLICE have been granted a warrant to further detain two terror suspects who were arrested at Heathrow this week.

The man and woman, both 26, can be held until October 16, according to the ruling at Westminster Magistrate Crown Court.

The couple were arrested at 8.30pm on Tuesday by Scotland Yard detectives as they flew in from Egypt.

They were concerned the couple were militant Islamists who might take action in the UK after being trained to fight in Syria.

Police have since confirmed they were also held in connection with the abduction and attempted murder of John Cantlie, a war photographer.

Mr Cantlie was captured and detained in an Islamic training camp in north-west Syria and later released by the Free Syria Army.
