THE suggestion a Heathrow Airport access road might be built through a Harlington cemetery has been slammed by Hillingdon Council.

Maps indicating a road might be built through Cherry Lane Cemetery, in Shepiston Lane, were published in the Department for Transport's consultation document for the third runway and sixth terminal.

Councillor Keith Burrows, who is responsible for planning and transportation in the borough, said there is much anger about BAA's apparent proposal.

Residents are furious their loved ones, who have been laid to rest, might be disturbed if the expansion plans are given the go-ahead.

Cllr Burrows, said: "The important issue is that these roads will not be built if plans for a third runway and sixth terminal are turned down.

"Also the plans are only indicative, which means they would be subject to planning permission being granted.

"There is so much opposition against the plans. We hope campaigners will succeed.

"We pointed out the access road route in the council's response to the consultation because of concerns from residents."

BAA has denied it plans to build a road through the cemetery and claims the consultation document is only "indicative".

The council is a member of the 2M Group which is an alliance of local authorities representing people affected by aircraft noise and pollution.

It is opposed to expansion at Heathrow Airport.

We have our Mother buried in the cemetry and another two places as well, for us when we pass away.
We certainly hope the third runway never materializes. as all the trouble it will cause to everyone around the area.

My grandparents are buried in Cherry Lane Cemetary. Any plan that proposes disturbing this place should be rejected immediately.Surely the law in the United Kingdom would not permit the disturbance of a grave site even with "planning permission" I trust the Hillingdon Council will be unyielding in its opposition to this outrage.

Not even the dead can rest in peace it seems. I am Hillingdon born and bred and both my parents are buried in Cherry Lane, lets hope that this 'plan' remains just a suggestion. If this is a serious threat I will be among the first to mount a campaign against it.

I have my Mother Father Daughter Grandson , Sister Mother in law Father in law and husbands step father all burried at Cherry lane cemetry. And my husband and i are both being burried there i strongly oppose the plans to put a road through there , Its about time BAA were stopped in there tracks witth all there plans of runways terminals and now roads through our cemetry They want to ruin this district there are enough roads and highways leading to heathrow plus the new byepass we would all be better off if they moved heathrow to dartmoor or somewhere where BAA cant pull down peoples homes , churches , schools, whole villages that have been ther hundreds of years . Lets get together and put a stop to this now Thanks everyone for listening

i think just for thinking of building a road on a cemetary is disgusting and should never be spoke of again. And that goes for any cemetary this is awful and i hope they do not have permission to do this. i will be outraged if this goes ahead. How would they like it if there daughter son mother father grandparents and siblings were layed to rest there. I think it is awful and as long as i am alive i will do everything in my power to stop it happening, i just cant belive this has even been thought about, considered its absoultly dredful if these people have an ounce of thought for others they will not go ahead. And whom ever gives the permission for this (if it does happen) should go and meet all the people who have there loved ones buried there and see what they have done to them.A graveyard is a place where people can go and think about there loved ones who they cant see EVER AGAIN! I have tears streaming down my face even thinking of this i pray to God this never ever ever happens.

its a shame that there are some people in this world that have no respect for our loved ones who have passed away and are buried there but have more respect for money, surely if it was the the person or people who's idea it is to build a third runway across their mother or father's grave it would'nt happen.
My father has been buried there for 10 years and not to mention alot of other peples loved ones buried there also and we must all make a stand against a third runway........

My dear father is burried in Cherry Lane and it is where, when something happens to her, my mother plans to be burried/ HOW CAN YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT PLANNING A ROAD THROUGH A CEMETARY, I KNOW EXPANSION IS INEVITABLE BUT YOU MUST NOT DISTURB THE DEAD. AS WELL AS MY DEAR FATHER, I HAVE OTHER RELATIVES LAID TO REST THERE. I STRONLY DISAGREE WITH THIS AND ASK YOU NOT DO THIS THROUGH A GRAVEYARD, SOME PEOPLE HAVE ONLY JUST BEEN BURRIED THERE AND HAVE PLENTY OF LIVING RELATIVES SO IT IS TERRIBLE.

Linda Preston, Ruislip says...

My friends mother and brother are burred in Cherry Lane Cemetery and his father ashes are being placed there this Friday. It is a disgrace that any council could consider destroying a cemetery that is currently in constant use and disregard the pain and upset this action would cause the families affected by their decision. Have they no respect for the living relatives many who find great comfort from visiting their loved ones graves. Is this all about money once again! Any plan that proposes disturbing this place should be rejected immediately.

It is just inconceivable that any suggestion to put a road through a cemetery would be considered at all. I have my dad, my young sister-in-law, 2 babies and extended family buried there. Do you not think we are surrounded by enough roads and air polution already. Also I would like to know why they have just started digging up the pond that has been there for years and years which made the cemetery a tranqauil place to go and young children to feed the birds. Also this is nesting ground for our wildlife which all of a sudden has been disturbed, I do plan to get to the bottom of this. The whole thing is a complete outrage and all for profit. People should have a voice and with that voice win.
