FREE blood pressure checks and will be on offer in Southall this weekend as part of a scheme to fight strokes.

The Stroke Association will be hosting the "Know Your Blood Pressure" event at the headquarters of Ealing Primary Care Trust, in Southall Broadway on Saturday, April 26.

Tracey Barker, a spokesman for the association said: "There is no doubt that blood pressure testing can help save lives.

"Getting your blood pressure checked is quick, simple and painless."

It is part of a national annual campaign run by the association in partnership with Rotary International.

The event, which has been organised with The Rotary Club of Hanwell and Northfields, will start at 9.30am and run until 2pm.

Around 150,000 people suffer strokes every year. The association say more than 40 per cent of these could be prevented by blood pressure control.
