Opening of new Woodland Centre at Ruislip Lido celebrated
RESIDENTS and volunteers joined to mark the official opening of Ruislip Lido’s Woodland Centre on Tuesday.
The newly-constructed centre, part of the council’s Ruislip Lido enhancement project, boasts a classroom, exhibition area, café and an office for the newly appointed Ruislip Lido manager.
Guests enjoyed a tour of the building and heard about plans to protect the borough’s green spaces, to offer lasting environmental benefits.
Council leader Ray Puddifoot said: “The Lido is already a centre for relaxation, recreation and escape, and the new Woodland Centre will provide an outstanding venue to bring members of the community together, to learn more about the woodlands, lake and environment.”
Children enjoyed face painting and balloon magic, and one visitor, from Hayes, said: “We tend to come to Ruislip Lido for Christmas for the miniature railway. Now the centre and café are open, we will definitely come more often!”
Ruislip Lido enhancement programme, which includes new car parking, refurbishment of the railway’s Woody Bay and Willow Lane stations, installation of new rain shelters, changing rooms and public toilets, will be substantially completed by October, when there will be a fireworks display on 20 October.
During the winter months, further improvements will be made to the beach area.
