Rockingham Rec and Johnson's Yard win People's Choice Awards in Uxbridge-Hillingdon
ROCKINGHAM Recreation Ground and Johnson’s Yard are the winners of this year's People’s Choice Awards for Uxbridge and Hillingdon.
The two projects received more than 90% of the 2,400 votes cast by residents and will be awarded a share of £50,000 by the Chrysalis programme, part of Hillingdon Council’s Feel Proud campaign.
Rockingham Rec will get up to £40,000 for a new footpath and Johnson’s Yard will receive £10,000 for a lighting upgrade.
The winners were announced by Cllr Douglas Mills, Cabinet Member for Community, Commerce and Regeneration, at a residents’ meeting at the Civic Centre in Uxbridge.
Cllr Mills said: “I look forward to seeing work begin as soon as possible and I am sure the improvements will be a boost to the area and help people feel even prouder of living, working and spending time in the borough.”
The winners were chosen from five projects nominated by residents and community groups.
Every year, the Chrysalis programme provides £1m for improvements to the borough, such as renovating community areas and providing play equipment in parks.
The work at Rockingham Rec will be managed by the council’s Green Spaces team and the upgrading of Johnson’s Yard by the street-lighting team. The work will begin as soon as possible.
Nominations for the People’s Choice Awards in West Drayton and Hayes will open in 2014.
