TWO of Hillingdon’s newly-refurbished libraries are in the running to win a prestigious accolade for their building design.

Mackenzie Wheeler Architects & Designers, who were contracted by the council to come up with designs for Oak Farm and Harlington libraries, have been shortlisted for the London Regional Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards.

Oak Farm Library has been nominated for Best Public Service Building and Harlington Library for Best Educational Building.

Kate Nolan, Associate at Mackenzie Wheeler, said: “We have been lucky enough to work alongside Hillingdon Council on the refurbishment of all 17 of their libraries and there has been real pride from all parties involved in each project, from the construction teams on site and the library staff, to the end users and local residents.

“Feedback has so far been very positive and extremely encouraging.”

The awards ceremony, on May 9 at The Guildhall, celebrates building achievements across the region.

All winning projects will automatically be shortlisted for the LABC finals in London on Tuesday, November 11.
